Concelears

Have you ever looked at those concealer palettes with green, orange, pink, yellow, purple, and neutral colors and wonder what to do with it? I have! So on todays topic lets discuss Color Correcting and the right way to do it shall we?

Remember art class and the basic color theory? If not its okay, I am about to refresh your mind. Makeup is just like art and your face is your canvas. Therefore the color theory is important.

Color wheel

There are there primary colors in the color wheel, Red, Yellow and Blue. Every primary color has a complementary color that helps cancel the other color out. Knowing which color cancels another out will help you determine what color you need for certain areas you wish to cover on your face. For example, Green Cancels Red, Purple Cancels Yellow and Orange Cancels Blue. So now that we have that down, lets get down to the fun stuff.

  • Green Concealers: Green concealers are great for canceling out those red blemishes that we hate as well as pimples, rosacea, broken blood vessels. Basically any red spots you see on your face. If you apply green concealer and blend it out it will help them disappear and be gone. For Green concealers you can pick the Maybelline Corrector Stick which cost $5.99 or Smashbox primer corrector which costs $39.

  • Pink Concealer: Using a pink concealer or one with peach undertones, or as I like to call them salmon concealers will help cancel out those blue dark circle under your eyes. For years me and my sister have been trying to conceal them and we could never get it right until we learned color correctness and the magic of pink concealers. My favorite one and its actually in my last blog is the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Treatment which costs $8.99. If you are looking for a more high end concealer I would go with the Erase Paste from Benefit which costs $26.00

  • Purple Concealers: These are used more if you have a yellow undertone. It basically helps you normalize sallow complexions or yellow bruises you might have on your face. You can use the NYX Hi Definition Photo Concealer wand in the shade Lavender which only costs $4.99 or you can use Smash box primer corrector which costs $39 (They have a serious of different primers in green/purple/etc).

yellow

  • Yellow Concealers: These will help cancel out any purple under eye circles, or just purple spots in general in your face. You can use Maybelline Corrector Concealer in Yellow which costs $5.99.

  • Orange Concealers: These are more for those of darker skin complexion that want to cover dark circles or any dark spots on their face. L.A. Girl Cosmetics has an Orange Concealer which is amazing and it only costs $5.00.

MAC

  • Neutral Concealers: These are good to cover any small imperfections you might have if your skin is not very troubled. Or if you get a shade or two lighter you can use it to highlight and a shade or two brighter to contour. My all time favorite is the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer which is $20.00. You can also use any Maybelline Concelear which are all mostly under $10.00. Drug store wise I think that Maybelline carry’s some of the best concealers.

If you want to just buy a pallet with all of these concealers in one you can purchase the Makeup Forever 5 Camouflage Creme Palette which is $40, which I believe comes in 5 different sets (Different colors) or the NYX Color correcting Palette which costs $11.99.

This concludes today’s color correcting lesson my beautiful friends, thanks for reading. Let me know if you found this blog useful or if you have any questions as well. On to next time! 🙂
